Why did I choose it over the Samsung Note 8? I like the size and shape of it better than the Note 8 and I like that the camera has a wide angle lens rather than a telephoto lens.
I was concerned about not being able to replace the battery as every smart phone I have had so far had that very nice feature. After my first full day of using the LG V30 it still had 25% of the battery left so I am ok with it so far. My first full day using it on a weekend may have different results.
At first I thought the multitude of camera options might be a little intimidating but going from a Note 4 which already had more options than I would normally use was easy as I will test each feature and see if it is useable to me or rather what situations it would be good to be used in so when the situation arises I can make the most of it. I did find out quickly that the Zhiyun Smooth-Q 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer I use does get in the picture if I use the wide angle lens. So I am limited to the normal lens when using the stabilizer or if I take pictures with it I can and will have to crop them. I will post more on the camera options/features after I have more time to use them.
Migrating from the Samsung Note 4 to the LG V30 was easy but not fast. I used the LG Mobile Switch app which copied all of my apps and text messages but adding all of the apps to the home screen into the folders I had on the Note 4 did take a fair amount of time. But, it also forced me to organize things again which as a very good procrastinator has not happened since I received my last replacement Note 4.
The placement of the fingerprint reader is a plus in my opinion but I wish the power button was on the right side like pretty much all of the last several phones I have had. In my truck I don’t have a windshield holder for my phone as the last one stopped holding onto the windshield and I haven’t replaced it yet so when I put the phone into the beverage holder the little rubber thingy pushed on the power button.
I do like that I can open/unlock the phone with either my face or fingerprint or voice. I also like that it stays unlocked when I have it at home or connected via Bluetooth to one of my Bluetooth speakers. I also set the always onscreen so it is off between midnight and 6:00 am so even though it doesn’t use much battery I don’t need my cats playing with it like a night light. I have noticed that when it is plugged in and I put my finger on the power button / finger print sensor it does make you swipe an advertisement off the screen for some reason. It is a little annoying but not a huge deal. It has locked up once so far when I had multiple things going on and I found that if you press and hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time for 8 seconds it will force it to reboot. Normally I would just take the battery out but in this case that is not something you want to do.
I ordered a case for my LG V30 on Amazon (the Gardien by Lumion) which was shipped very quickly. It looks good and feels better than the phone by itself in my opinion as the phone by itself feels smaller than I am used to and just a bit fragile. While the V30 isn’t slippery it feels like it should be with the all glass body. The link here is just to the case not an affiliate link.

So far I am happy with the LG V30 and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new android smart phone. I will give more in depth information later.
